You wouldn’t send your child to first grade with a teacher who wasn’t educated in child development and pedagogy; why wouldn’t you give your infant, whose brain is growing much more quickly, that same regard?

Our teachers join us having studied early childhood education, child development, or closely related studies, as well as hands-on experience with children, allowing them to weave theory and practice appropriately in their curricular design. Their deep knowledge of child development gives families at Old Firehouse School a wealth of wisdom and support. Our year-round professional development opportunities for educators ensure that we stay up to date with the always-advancing science of brain development, and how to support it
√ Dedicated
When we recruit teachers, we look for a reciprocal commitment: our school to them, and their time to your family. Our goal is for teachers at Old Firehouse School to stay with us (and your family!) from the time their group begins until they graduate to kindergarten. This continuity of care gives children the security to grow, learn, and experiment without being preoccupied by first figuring out their teacher’s expectations. The close bonds children form with their teacher starts them off with a view of the world, and school as a whole, as being warm and supportive places where they want to be.
√ Compassionate
An early childhood educator must care for the whole child– mind, body, and emotion. They know that the early years are when crucial thought patterns, like growth mindset and self-compassion, are formed. When children are met with warmth and understanding, they grow up able to give that to themselves and others. Our teachers have the compassion and understanding that help young children to thrive.
